This month's soap challenge club is the DNA Helix Swirl. That makes me think of high school - any one else remember the DNA models? All in all, it just is not real soap-spirational. I had to look other places for inspiration.
Spring Snow Goose Migration
Every spring we have front row seats to the annual snow goose migration event. (Eastern South Dakota is in the Central Flyway.) It is heralded by a middle of the night wake up call. It consists of an elbow nudge and a whispered "Do you hear them?" .... MMMmmmmhhhhmmmm. The next morning when we walk outside it is a riotous event with THOUSANDS gathered on the slough. They all talk at once and are loud. VERY LOUD. "What's that? I can't hear you kind of loud." The noise level increases when they take off. Dear husband describes the noise that their wings make as "razors cutting the air". Here's what that looked like last spring at the 444Farm.
Since it's "in their DNA" to migrate each spring to the Arctic to nest, I thought they would make the perfect inspiration for the DNA Helix Soap Challenge.
I love the color palette at this time of year - when Spring is trying so hard to wake up. Some days the greys are dominant in the sleepy skies and semi-frozen sloughs and ponds. Other days, the browns shine in the sun until the dormant fields look like golden straw or honey and the blues are bright and warm.
For this month's soap challenge, I am going to use the colors of sleepy spring and the DNA Helix Soap Swirl Techniqe to create my Spring Snows soap. Now if you think you're going to see the picture above duplicated in the soap, you are about to be disappointed. But if you are more of an abstract thinker, take a gander (pun intended) at the next few pictures.
We're starting off with 4 colors. Technically there are 5 as I will be mixing the white and blue to come up with a lighter shade of blue for the final color.
We'll start by adding lines of the colors to the top of soap.
Next we'll make tight S curves
Finally we're ready to make loose S curves and the helix can be seen.
The soap is scented with Lemongrass Basil Sage Mint. It's kind of a wake up Spring scent so for me even the scent is a bit reminscent of the picture.
And there you have it! A snow goose inspired soap. Pretty sure only the 444Farm has that :)
