We enjoy selling soap at events. We really do. Almost as much as we enjoy talking to you. It doesn’t matter if you bought our soap or not, you made an impact on us. I recently sat down to get my applications ready for some of my upcoming favorite events, which sent me down memory lane. I thought I'd share some of their stories.
I love it when other goat owners stop by and I get to talk a little shop. Such it was when Kristi and her daughters stopped by. But her story was so much more than goats. They were recent South Dakota transplants from Douglas, WY. What is it that would make farmers sell their homestead and rebuild 9 hours away? Fracking. After fracking began close to their farm, they started to notice things. First, their garden died. Then her husband was diagnosed with auto-immune disease and daughter had tumors. Their move to South Dakota was about living.
One of our most popular soaps is called Lick Me All Over. (for G-rated audiences, it's Lick Me All Over - like a puppy dog!) It's a toss-up if they buy it for the name or for the scent. Or maybe the buy it first for the name and then buy it again because of the oh-so-good fragrance.
Any-hoo, I had a well-retired customer who stopped by my booth and smelled each one until declaring "This is the one!" (Lick Me All Over) When his much younger wife stopped he encouraged her to "Find the one you like best." She picked Lick Me All Over, too, but looked a bit weary at her husband as she didn't know quite what to make of the name. "Bob" rejoiced at knowing his wife so well and said, "Yes! That's the one I picked too!" She gave him a sideways look and asked if he had seen the name. And that's when I found out, you are never too old too blush! Poor man, he sputtered, turned bright red, and bought a bar!
The 3rd story is short and sweet. It is about the customer who told me that she buys our soaps as gifts to people who were facing health crisis or other stressors . With her gift she would add a little personal note that said "the best tears are cried in the shower."
Thank you, all!
Sometimes you were the happy pill that we needed, other times you moved us with a personal story and other times you were an inspiration for a new scent or product idea. Always, we loved talking to you! It's so enjoyable putting a face to names on Facebook and the best is to hear "I'm so happy that you're here again!"
