GusGus has returned after a lovely 2 month vacation with a couple of beautiful mini-donkeys. With any luck, they found him equally beautiful and will be first-time mothers in a year.
GusGus reminded us that Rosie' s name is really "My Rosie"
Darling granddaughter Sage will let us claim any of the other animals, but "My Rosie" belongs only to her. However, Cricket, although he bites her and tries to get a piggy back ride, he still knows where his next meal comes from. When it's supper time, Rosie is definitely "His Rosie."
And then GusGus arrives! Oh, the joy as he runs as he noisily greets and tries to claim "His Rosie" across the fence.
Not recognizing a momma's love, when he saw Rosie's shadow, his happy exuberant greeting ended in shouts of "Imposter!" He tried convincing Rosie of his charms with a little logic - "Look at his ears! You call that a bray?!"
She wasn't swayed. She loves her baby Cricket.
He turned his attention to Cricket, lowered his ears way back and decided a donkey to mule talk was needed. He took a step forward and bumped into my leg. Without taking his eyes off Cricket he reached down and gave me a "get out of my way" nip. He then heard my "louder than bray voice" that told him in no uncertain terms that such behavior was not allowed! Contrite, he proceeded with an small exploratory nose bump between the electric fence wires. (Yikes!) It may have triggered memories of the cute little guy, but he isn't ready for a family reunion quite yet. (Cricket would have been around 2-3 weeks old when GusGus went a-visiting.)
It was pretty crazy how much we missed him while he was gone. Life on the farm just wasn't the same without him. So we made a change - a big change. GusGus is our official farm mascot. I know, kinda crazy since our soaps are all about goat's milk. Fortunately for me, you have told us many times that you enjoy our farm stories on Facebook. I think I have figured out a way to incorporate both the soaps and our silly farm life. Soon you will see a new logo and with that a new tagline - something to the affect of "Lather and Legends." We look forward to providing both in the future!
